Obituary

Carolyn Mikesell (Wielinski) "Sarge" Carolyn Mikesell (Wielinski) "Sarge" Passed away Sunday July 10, 2011 at St. Anne Hospital in Toledo. Carolyn was the daughter of Alex and Louise Wielinski of Toledo. She married Kenneth Mikesell on April 19, 1951. Carolyn learned data processing or "key punching" early when the computer age was just beginning. She was one of the first key punch operators at Owens Illinois and worked there after high school and early on in he married life. Carolyn was able to stay home with her girls and taught them all the skills needed to run a happy home: sewing and mending, knitting, crafts, cooking, baking, freezing and canning, and gardening. Her youngest daughter, Mary took the sewing and mending skills to a higher level and opened and has operated Sew-N-Such for alterations, tailoring, bridal work and all other sewing needs for over 21 years. Her older daughter, Louise learned the food and floral industry from Carolyn; from farmer's where she ran the Toledo Farmers Market for 10 years and ran Sunshine Florist for 12 years, to cooking and producing her own cookbook "Lunch With Louise". Carolyn loved children and once her girls were old enough she became a great Girl Scout leader and later a neighborhood chairman. She taught many young girls about the outdoors and loved camping and taught many life skills to those that were in her troops over the years. Her nickname was affectionately "Sarge", because she was a great leader. She was even adventurous enough to wear he Girl Scout Leader Uniform on the train while she traveled to the Edit Macy Center in New York where she was sent for training. Once her youngest got older she returned to data processing starting at a service bureau in the old Babcock Dairy where she did processing for the dairy and NFO to name a few. She became proficient and went to work in the computer room at Chrysler, where she worked until she retired. A long time member Carolyn attended Saint Agnes Parish until it closed. She joined Saint Catherine Parish and due to declining health welcomed Fran, one of the Eucharist ministers at the house on a weekly basis to receive communion. Along with domestic skills, Carolyn and her husband taught their family to help others. Whether that meant a kind hand,a warm meal, or to become part of the family all were welcome and many a dinner table contained more than the immediate family. Nothing made her happier than the noise and activity of a house full of family and friends. In her later years Friday dinners were a weekly celebration with family and friends coming over to enjoy simple dinners and make great memories. Once retired Carolyn enjoyed working on crafts, knitting and gardening and caring for her cherished feline companions. She even produced a cookbook of her own favorite recipes for her gils so that many of family favorites could be passed down to others. Carolyn was preceded in death by her husband Kenneth, her parents "Dick" & Louise Wielinski, her brother, Chuck Wielinski and his wife Ruth and her friend Peggy Strunk. Leaving behind to remember her are: her daughters, Mary Cianci, Louise (Mike) Wireman, and almost a daughter Donna Marie Huffman. Three grandsons: Paul (Christine) Cianci, Anthony Cianci, Eric Huffman and 5 great grand children. Many nieces, nephews and cousins, especially Doloris Ann Elwing. Special friends Bob Beers and Phyllis Gnepper.
