Obituary

On July 1, 2026, we said goodbye to our aunt, Cary Wing, who passed away at the age of 75 after a very brief battle with metastatic lung cancer. The illness came quickly, but Cary faced it with the quiet strength that she carried through her whole life.

Born on October 4, 1950, in Toledo, Ohio, Cary grew up with a faithful spirit and a big heart. She loved life's simple pleasures-curling up with a good book, cheering on Notre Dame football, watching the thrill of NASCAR racing, following the excitement of Triple Crown hopefuls each spring, and filling her days with music. Whether it was a favorite song playing in the background or a live performance that moved her to tears, music was a constant source of joy and comfort in her life.

Cary's life was defined by her deep devotion to family. After her father, Glenn, passed away, she selflessly cared for her mother, Barbara, for many years-offering love, patience, and unwavering support. Her love for animals was unmatched, and her dogs-Tramp, Sonny, and Genie-were her beloved companions.

To her nieces and nephews, Cary was more than an aunt-she was a mentor, a confidante, and a partner-in-crime. She had a knack for turning ordinary days into adventures, whether it was a sunny afternoon at Devil's Lake, a spontaneous drive along Route 12 to check out quirky roadside attractions, or a taco run that somehow turned into a full evening of laughter and stories.

Cary is survived by her sister, Abby; her nieces, Jamie and Derica; and her nephews, James, Tommy, and Kasey. She was preceded in death by her father, Glenn; her mother, Barbara; her sisters, Betty and Dawn ("Nuge"); and her brother, Bobby.

We'll be honoring Cary's life privately. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The Humane Society, a cause close to her heart.

Cary's legacy is simple but powerful: love deeply, laugh often, cheer loudly, sing along to the music, and never miss a chance to care for those-human or animal-who need it most.
