Charles Gast, a Sylvania Township resident and native of Sylvania, lost his 3 year battle to Mesothelioma and went to be with his Lord and Savior on October 12, 2019. He was 73. Chuck is survived by his wife of 30 years Anita, as well as his step daughter Candi, daughters Stephanie and Angela and son David, grand daughter Raquel, 2 Sisters J. Alice and Holly, Brother in law Jerry(Carol)Davis and their 2 children Kristin and Jacob, His aunt Louise and several cousins. Chuck was a Physical Education Teacher/Drivers Education instructor in Oakland County Michigan for 16 years until he left the Education field and went the Self Employment route and started a carpet cleaning business. Family circumstances forced him to relocate to the downriver area of Michigan(Where he met and married his wife Anita), then more recently back to Toledo. Using the phone skills he cultivated during his former carpet cleaning business, he started a new 30 year career path in phone sales ending with Yark Automotive Group where he had worked the past 11 years. Chuck wanted his life to be a blessing to others. He actually enjoyed spreading good cheer and doing random acts of kindness. Most recently Chuck enjoyed serving on his Sylvania Class reunion Committee, reconnecting with old friends from childhood, Attending church and spending time with his family. He was a a member of Westgate Chapel in Toledo. Chuck was also an avid sports fan cheering on the Detroit TIGERS, Detroit LIONS, University of Michigan, Toledo Mudhens and Walleye. In his youth Chuck played baseball and was a little league all star. He also earned an outstanding player trophy his senior year in high school. As an adult he played slow pitch softball in various leagues and was an above average outfielder and hitter. Chuck really enjoyed staying in shape. His preferred method of physical fitness was body building and jogging. Memorial service will be held at Westgate Chapel on Saturday October 26, 2019 at 11am. A luncheon will follow.
