Chester Depp Sr. passed away unexpectedly July 25th, 2021 at the age of 80 at his home. He was born in Toledo, Ohio in 1940 to the union of Cyrano and Tallulah "Lula" Depp. Chester was baptized at Mount Zion Baptist Church early in life Chester's favorite bible verse was Psalms 23. He graduated from Woodward High school. Chester was drafted into the United States Army in 1964 and served as rifle marksman during the Vietnam War.
While Chester worked many places, he retired from Columbia Gas after numerous years of service as a senior pipefitter.
Chester was a sharp dresser. He enjoyed gardening (and could be found working hard in his yard on Detroit Ave many a day), going to the park, and taking pictures. He was an animal lover and avid newspaper reader. He loved watching and playing basketball as well as collecting coins. Chester was a member of the Fraternal Order of Masons. One thing about Chester is that you always knew what was on his mind and lived by his favorite Christopher Morley quote - "There is only one success - to be able to spend your life in your own way".
He was preceded in death by parents Cyrano and Tallulah "Lula" Depp, siblings Cyrano, Edward, Richard, Nancy, Eleanor, Frederick "Freddy", John. Chester is survived by his wife Darla Depp, his children Chester Depp Jr. (Leatrice), Patricia Depp, Brian Easley, Leon Depp, Lutricia Prater (Latrelle), siblings Juanita, Vivian, James and grandchildren Romell, Patrick, Diamond, Dominique, Charlene, Janelle, Alethia, Keyanna, Kiersen, Lamia, Jada, Jadyn, Linear, Jocelynn, Caleb, great grandchildren Dehlia, Maison and Noah and up to 4 generations of nieces and nephews and many other relatives.
There will be a tree planting on Saturday, August 7th at Walbridge Park at 3pm with the celebration of life to follow at 5:30 at the VFW Post 606, 3005 W. Laskey Rd, Toledo, OH 43613.
He will always be remembered for his infectious smile and telling jokes.
