Obituary

Dolores (Gartz) Collins Our beloved Mother, Dolores Mae Collins, 94, of Toledo, OH, passed away on January 16th, 2018 at Parkcliffe Alzheimer Communities, Toledo, OH. She was born on April 1st, 1923 in Toledo, OH to Clarence and Edith Gartz (deceased). She graduated from Libbey High School (being a Member of the National Honor Society) and the former Robinwood Hospital School of Nursing and became an R.N. She enlisted in the Navy Nurse Corps with the rank of Ensign and was stationed at the Great Lakes Naval Hospital in Chicago during WWII where she met her future husband, James J. Collins, a Sergeant in the U.S. Marine Corps. At the end of their service, they moved back to Toledo where they raised their family. Dolores continued her nursing career until retirement at The Toledo Hospital. Dolores was an avid reader, dabbled in painting and enjoyed her travels later in life. She cherished all the time she had with her 3 grandchildren growing up around her. She loved them "all to pieces". Dolores is preceded in death by her husband, James, son, Robert, infant daughter, Linda, brother Clarence Gartz and sister Betty O'Connor. Dolores was a loving mother and grandmother and is survived by her children, Nancy (Jay) Gilday, Barbara (Gordon) Meek and Robin (Carl) Gould; granddaughters Kyle Gould/SGT. 2nd Marine, AirWing Band (Veteran) and Laura (Jon/SGT. 2nd Marine AirWing Band) Larson and grandson, Taylor Meek; and brother, Dwight Gartz and sister, Suzanne Gartz along with numerous nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank the staff/caregivers at Parkcliffe and ProMedica Hospice for their compassionate care during our Mom's last several years. There will be no funeral/visitation per our Mom's request. Arrangements being made by Caring Cremation Services. Private graveside ceremony with Military Honor Guard will be held at a future date where her granddaughter, Kyle, will play taps honoring her military service at The Historic Woodlawn Cemetery where she will be laid to rest.
