Evelyn Cecile Walker was born October 10, 1955 in Valdosta, Georgia, to Joseph Samuel and Mennie Louise (Stewart) Walker. She obtained her victory in passing peacefully at the Hospice Center of Northwest Ohio on October 15, 2015 surrounded by her loving family just after her 60th birthday following a hard fought battle with breast cancer. Evelyn accepted Jesus Christ at an early age and was baptized in 1974 at Harding Township Church of Christ. She grew up in Toledo, Ohio attending Harriett Whitney Vocational Technical High School where she was very active. She majored in business education and stenography while participating in the Afro-American club, band, chorus, COE, girl's athletic league, Junior Achievement, publications staff, senior activities including the council, and assistant editor of the First Lady yearbook. She was senior class president and spoke at her commencement exercises in 1973. She also attended the University of Toledo from 1973 - 1976. Evelyn held a variety of positions throughout her life: counselor at the Y.W.C.A. (where she was also a lifeguard) and the Maumee Valley Children's Home. She worked at Teledyne, the City of Toledo and the U.A.W. Local 12 Union Hall. She helped James "J.D." Murray with managing the business affairs of Best Furniture Outlet. Evelyn's eclectic creativity is well known-including painting, music (playing French horn and piano among other instruments), dance, sculpture, and multi-media, having been stimulated through classes in school and at the Toledo Museum of Art where some of her paintings were displayed. She also had a flair for home remodeling and interior design. Evelyn was blessed with a heart of service that she exhibited through assisting others whenever and wherever she could. Her final act of service was an extraordinary commitment to personal care for her mother even in the midst of undergoing her own regimen of chemo and radiation therapy. The fifth of nine siblings, five sisters and three brothers, she was predeceased by her mother, Mennie Louise (Stewart) Walker. She is survived by father, Joseph Samuel Walker, siblings: Joseph Walker Jr. (Patricia, lifetime companion), Linda Howard (Joe), Lorna Walker Carson, Terry F. Walker Sr. (Donna), Sherri McKellar (Alvin), Bridgette Walker, Julius Walker (Weta), and Tia Walker; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and many caring friends.
