Hoang Duc Tran, 63, died unexpectedly on November 3, 2021 in Sylvania, Ohio. Hoang was born on May 30, 1958 in Viet Nam and immigrated with his mother and siblings to Sylvania, Ohio in May, 1972. Hoang was a carpenter and member of the Carpenters Local #351 for over 30 years and worked to build a better place for his family and his community. Driving with Hoang would frequently involve him pointing to the projects he worked on and saying with pride, "I built that!" With his tools and extensive knowledge, Hoang was always ready to lend a hand whether it was helping family members with their projects or building sets for plays at the Northview theater. His passion for the community inspired him to run for city council in Solon, Ohio, knocking door to door to improve the lives of all who knew him. Throughout Ohio, his work can be seen on the roads, bridges, buildings and homes that frame our lives. Hoang was a devoted father, grandfather, and brother who valued time with family over everything and he was usually found carrying a child on his shoulders or cooking for a crowd. His infectious laugh filled the room and he could drop a dad joke when needed...or not. He was an avid cyclist and traveler who explored the world with his family, making new friends everywhere he went. Throughout the world, his love can be felt in the laughter, smiles, and outrageous stories shared about the short, yet towering man that shaped our lives. Hoang is survived by his children Rebecca Sager, Trung Tran, Samantha Tran, Justin Tran, and Stephany Kasmin (Ben); grandchildren Jasmyne, Hailey, Madison, Selena, Kymbrelee, Makayla, Kayden, Rodney, R'Monte, Remiah, Gage, May, and Jackson; greatgrandchildren Nathan and Anabelle; siblings Lauren Perkins, Hanh Tran (Sis), Tai Tran (Terrie), Loi Tran (Hoa), Nga Tran (Al Klosek), Dao Tran, Donna Husemoller (John), and Dianna Ross; many nieces, nephews, and cousins; and special friends, Mai Nguyen and Tucui Tran. He was preceded in death by his parents, Tran Tinh Van and Nguyen Thi Hoa; grandson, Anthony; and brother, Harold. A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, November 20, 2021, at 1:00pm at the Sylvania Community Center Hall, 5440 Marshall Rd, Sylvania, Ohio 43560. Per his wishes, the family requests that everyone live life to its fullest and love everyone you meet.
