John Anthony Gartee
The Man, The Myth, The Legend
( 1960-2019)
John was embraced in the arms of God on November 19, 2019. John was known for being a generous, loving, loyal, and fun father, uncle, brother, son, and friend. He was the best there was, the best there is, and the best there ever will be.
He graduated from Libbey High School in Toledo, Ohio. After graduation, John entered the U.S. Navy. He later retired from Daimler Chrysler Jeep Corporation, where he worked for 26 years. He was a fiercely patriotic lover of America, football (Go Bucks! Go Browns!), Blackhawks hockey, Detroit Tiger baseball, WWE, bowling, holidays, westerns, and his furry daughter Jazzy. He was quite the skateboarder, basketball player, and cartwheeler back in the day. Many also remember he always went out with a huge bang on the 4th of July, made an awesome haunted Halloween display, and helped light up South Toledo for Christmas. He loved with his whole heart and would give you the shirt off his back, no questions asked. He will be forever missed, but never forgotten.
John is proceeded in death by his father Paul Wade Gartee and mother Margaret J. Gartee. He will be remembered in love by his children: Erica Bankston (Tri), Angela Faria (Jeff), Jessica Morrison (Josh), and their mother Josie Gartee as well as Dustin Pierson (Ashley) and Kaitlin Chandler (Austin) and their mother Dawn Gartee. His legacy continues with his grandsons Jeremy, Leon, Cruz, Clyde, Drake, Emmanuel, and Nico. He is survived through his brothers and sisters: Wade, Susie, Mary, and Dickie and further survived by numerous nephews, nieces, and friends.
The Gartee family would like to thank everyone for their continuous support during this time. In respecting his final wishes, John will be cremated and there will be no public funeral or memorial services. If you'd like to make a donation to his family as they handle his affairs and cremation services, please donate to his memorial fund here:
