K. Celeste Grime spent her life helping others find their voice, often with more patience than most. She had the rare gift of making people feel helped rather than hurried, heard rather than managed, and loved without ever making a fuss about it.

Celeste, born November 16, 1946, played her final note on September 22, 2026, after a life devoted in so many ways to music, teaching, and service.

She graduated from Mary Manse College with a bachelor's degree in music in 1974 and later earned a master's degree in the arts in 1985 from Ball State University. For more than 25 years, Celeste was a Notre Dame nun, with music at the heart of her ministry. After leaving the convent, she continued the work that came so naturally to her. She spent the remainder of her professional career teaching music in Catholic and Toledo Public Schools, including Gesu, Spring, and Raymer.

Music remained a constant throughout her life. Her tastes ranged from classical music to the Bee Gees, and Christmas every year will feel especially different without her at the piano leading the carols.

Celeste also loved to travel. Among her favorite places were the Smoky Mountains and Put-in-Bay, and she especially enjoyed trips to Alaska and Italy. At home, she loved her dogs, Abby and River - she is finally reunited with her beloved dog Jasmine who was waiting patiently on the other side of the rainbow bridge.

Among those who will miss her enormously are Kathy Carnicom, Jessica (Keith) Krygielski, and Frank (Christine) Carnicom. Frank and Jessica grew up with Celeste as a second mother, helping to guide and raise them along the way. She was affectionately known as "Aunt Cesi" to Miles and Cecilia Krygielski, as well as to Elliott, Xavier, Lucie and Estella Carnicom. Celeste was also Miles' godmother. She was far more than a family friend. She was truly family.

Graveside services will be held Monday, October 5, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. at the mausoleum at Highland Memory Gardens in Waterville. In lieu of flowers, those wishing to remember Celeste may make a donation to Planned Pethood or the Toledo Humane Society.

Celeste was truly one of a kind. Those who knew her would be hard-pressed to remember her saying an unkind word about anyone. Some people leave a room quieter when they go. Celeste leaves our world with more music, more joy and more kindness for having been in it; she will be deeply missed.
