Phillip David Oberst, 64, passed away Saturday, Dec. 14, 2019 at Hospice of Northwest Ohio in Toledo, Ohio.
Phillip was born July 28, 1955, in Tiffin Ohio, to Marjorie and Phillip Oberst. Phil is survived by his wife, Julie; two daughters, Chas and Lauren; and three stepdaughters, Jennifer, Jill, and Jacquelyn. He is also survived by his 5 grandchildren he dearly loved: Carmyn Oberst, Ethaniel Rysz, Clara Duslak and Cameron and Deacon Pfeiffer. He is also survived by his cousin Rodney Burd and best friend AJ Smith.
He is preceded in death by his father, Phillip; mother, Marjorie; stepmother Susie; and his first wife, Patricia.
Phillip grew up in Fremont and graduated from Fremont Ross in 1973. While attending Fremont City Schools, he was an avid athlete and especially loved playing football for Ross. Phil showed horses with Sandusky County 4-H. He enjoyed the outdoors.
After high school, Phil joined the Army at age 17. He loved his country and was proud to have served in the Army. While in the Army, Phil married Patricia (Miller)Oberst and together they travelled to Korea for his first post. Phil and Patricia had two daughters, Chas Oberst of Tiffin and Lauren Oberst of Port St. Lucie, Florida. Pat passed away in 2001 from pancreatic cancer.
Phil retired from Whirlpool in Clyde in 2003 due to health reasons. He had worked there for over 20 years as a machinist.
Phil went by several names, depending on how and when you knew him. To his parents, Pat, and her family and his daughters he was known as David or Dave. To his trap shooting buddies, he was Obie. To his second wife, Julie (Gregg- Duslak) Oberst, stepdaughters, Jennifer (Jeff) Hunker, Jill (Adam) Pfeiffer and Jacquelyn (Sam) Fathi Salmi, he was Phil.
Phil had two passions in life which were trap shooting and fishing. He shot trap all over the United States and fished any place there was water. His favorite places to fish were Lake Erie for perch and walleye and the back country of the Everglades in Florida for Snook, Redfish, Snapper, Sea Trout and what ever happened along.
A Celebration of Life will begin at 1PM Saturday, January 18, 2020, at the Clubhouse of Ridge View Condominiums, 68 R Linda Drive Ballville, Ohio.
