Obituary – Raymond Edward Dennis

Raymond Edward Dennis age 80, of Sylvania, Ohio passed away Sunday, May 4, 2025, of natural causes, at Hospice of Northwest Ohio.

Raymond was born on June 15, 1944, in Adrian, Michigan to Waldo and Elenora Dennis. He graduated from Onsted High School in 1962. He received his bachelor's degree from Western Michigan University and his master's degree from Eastern Michigan University.

Raymond taught civics and American government at Adrian High School for 25 years. He was a beloved teacher and also assisted in coaching tennis, cross country, and ski club. He represented his fellow teachers as a delegate at the NEA (National Education Association) convention for 13 years.

Raymond (Ray) retired from teaching and moved to Toledo, then to Sylvania. He was an avid reader, and enjoyed exercising, taking care of his pets, gardening and spending time with family and friends. He was a devoted son and tried to visit his mother every weekend.

Raymond was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers Ron, Richard, and Russell Dennis and nephew, Russell Mark Dennis. He is survived by his nieces Angela (David) Hill of Adrian, Michigan; Marsha (John) Groll; of Lambertville, Michigan, and Sheila Dennis of Indianapolis, Indiana. He also leaves behind his sister-in-law, Judith Dennis of Adrian, Michigan, and his nephews, Richard Dennis (Brenda) of Dearborn, Michigan, Steve Dennis of Dearborn, Michigan, Danny Dennis of Lewiston, Michigan, and nieces, Angelita Dennis of Stuart, Florida, and Sharon Dennis of Arlington, Texas.

Raymond passed at hospice surrounded by family. His final days were spent holding hands, bonding, and sharing joys and memories. Raymond will be remembered for his warmth, kindness, and his sense of humor.

Per Raymond's request, he wished to be cremated. A family memorial will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers and gifts, memorial donations may be made to the Lenawee Humane Society or the Lenawee Historical Society, Adrian, Michigan.
