Thomas Lee Thompson
Thomas Lee Thompson, 85 of Maumee, Ohio, passed away in his home on March 15, 2025. He was born February 27, 1940, to Robert L. Thompson and Geraldine Payne Thompson. He is survived by his bride of 64 years, Gail (Grasley) Thompson, Daughter, Leslie Rombkowski, and Son, Rod Thompson (Kim); Grandchildren, Wade Thompson, Lauren Rombkowski and Alan Rombkowski (Bri) and Great Granddaughter Sylvie Rombkowski; Sisters, Sue Kuhl, Janice Kosier, Diane (Dick) Culbertson and Shelly (Joe) Clement; and numerous beloved nieces and nephews along with many extended family and friends He was preceded in death by his Sister, Florence (Donald) Hemminger, Brother, Terry Thompson and Brother-in-law and his wife Thomas Grasley (Patricia).
Tommy, as he was known to his siblings, was the oldest of seven children and graduated from Springfield High School in 1958. He enjoyed a varied career, successful in all his endeavors. Early on he worked in the paint shop at the Kaiser Jeep Plant, was a supervisor at Midland Ross, Mather Spring and Cleveland Metal Abrasive. In 1977, he purchased Dale's Bar and operated it for ten years. During this time, he was a member of the Maumee Planning Commission and Uptown Business Association. After selling the bar, he purchased rentals and dove into the real estate profession selling commercial real estate for DiSalle Real Estate and Danberry Realty until his retirement.
Tom filled his free time at his cottage on Barton Lake, Indiana, spending numerous summers enjoying his pontoon boat and tooling around on his golf cart with a red solo cup in hand, becoming good friends with their neighbors. Before his health had declined, they spent many winters in Ft. Myers, Florida. He really enjoyed showing off his fishing lure and pole collection to anyone that stopped by.
Tom was a life member of the Maumee Elks. He served in the U.S. Army and Military Police.
Tom lived life to the fullest and took advantage of everything that was offered to him. When you were with him, you knew you were in for good "story", peppered with extra embellishments for you to laugh about. On any given morning, Tom could be found enjoying his favorite breakfast at the Briarfield Café, Charlies Restaurant and the Buzz Family Diner.
In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the Toledo Zoo or a charity of your choice. The family would like to thank Hospice of Northwest of Ohio and his niece, Laura Brindley for all their care.
